
Mugur Isărescu
Governor of the National Bank of Romania
Mugur Isărescu is the Governor of the National Bank of Romania since September 1990, with an interruption between December 1999 and November 2000, when he held the position of Prime Minister. Before 1990 Mr. Isărescu held a research position at the Institute of International Economics and took courses in the United States. Since 1990 he started his activity in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as economic and monetary affairs secretary at the Romanian Embassy in the United States, and in charge of the relations with the IMF and World Bank. Mr. Isărescu is also member of the Romanian Academy.
