Jan Jireš is Head of Defence Counsellors at the Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic to NATO. From March 2014 to July 2017, he served as Defence Policy Director at the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. Jan graduated in History and Political Science from Charles University in Prague. He also studied International Relations at the University of Tampere, Finland. In 2008 and 2009, he spent a year as Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC. Before joining the Czech Ministry of Defence in 2013, he was a lecturer in Security Studies and International Relations at Charles University in Prague and the CEVRO Institte College in Prague. He collaborated with a number of European and US think-thanks dealing with security and defence policies on various research projects. They included, inter alia, CESS Groningen, DCAF Geneva, CEPA Washington, SOWI Strausberg and SAC Bratislava.
